Spy Tape

Spy Tape, a.k.a. Chris W. Paine, hails from Austin,Texas and makes downtempo-dub-funk music.  Paine adopted the name Spy Tape in 2009 to release Another Conversation EP.  Paine previously release a full length album, Weird Conversations, under his given name.

Another Conversation EP is a remix of three songs from Weird Conversations plus one new song Elev8.  “I was in a writing funk and needed to get the juices flowing again.  So I did some remixes to do something in a positive direction. Elev8 (Apple Loops Mix) was written the first day I got Logic.  I used Apple’s samples, modified, tweeked and chopped them into this little tune. That’s why it’s titled Apple Loops mix."

Music from Weird Conversations has been played on SomaFM's Groove Salad, ChillOut2NewYork and Slackline Radio. Weird Conversations has been featured in several documentaries and podcasts by Richard Andrew Grove of 8thestate Media and Paul Verge's Highjacking Humanity.

"I am inspired by all sorts of music. Everything from Prince to Kiss, Muddy Waters to John Coltrane, Thievery Corporation to Tosca, Mozart to Paganini, the guy in the subway beating on buckets to the sound a rubber band makes when you stretch it out and strum it.  It's all good. The comment I get the most about my music is that it works great for movies."
